In 2009 Patrik Karlsson was having a few beers with some acquaintances and the thought of performing on a guitar hero guitar came up. The beer drinking friends didn't want to pursue the idea so Patrik presented the idea to his friends Katarina Widell, Palle Dahlstedt and Tony Blomdahl and they loved it. So Patrik wrote, after the suggestion of Tony, an application for a grant from the national organisation RANK. RANK decided to give the project a substantial amount of money. Patrik also applied for founds from the Swedish Arts Council and the project was given a flying start.

youherolidingoPalle Dahlstedt, whom is also a researcher and a scientist, started to sketch out the program. But it took a while, Palle went on tour, went fishing, wrote a treatise and much more so almost a year after deadline we had a prototype. We all decided to have a meeting and test the program and since we had the non profit organisations, C-Y Contemporary, Uruppförandeklubben, URUK Ljungskile/Älvton and Geiger backing us up we where happy they all could be there for Palle's demonstration. Since Palle´s very skilled it worked like a charm, and we where all very happy. So, we took it on the road for a test drive on a small tour.

We performed our first concert at the GAS-festival in Gothenburg. It went ok, but we soon realized that in order to get these plastic controllers to be believable we couldn't perform at a to low volume from the PA system. It was just to soft at the GAS-festival and we needed more power.

For the second concert we went down to Malmö and performed alongside the great people of CY-contemporary, their technician really got it and we got some more juice. But it wasn't until the third gig at the Norberg Festival that we got to try a really high quality PA system and got it loud enough. It wasn't loud enough for Tony of course, he really want you to feel your body shake in an earthquake kind of way.youherouppsala

After we were done with the tour we gave Palle some feedback of things that didn't work to well. We couldn't save sounds and each time we started up the program we got at random sound. So version number two, that we are currently using is much better. We can save presets, and quickly change sounds on the fly.

The next step was to do what we intended all along, bring this instrument to kids around Sweden. We started to book workshops and meeting kids and teenagers at schools, music schools and art schools.

Our focus is to bring new ways of expression for the kids, and also to challenge their perception of what they actually can do. It has been quite successful, and we in the group have learnt a lot of things from the kids as well.
